I don't have much of a story. I grew up in Tulsa and started at OU in 1955.

The reason for going into the OU was based on my family history of attending

OU. The reason for attending the architecture school was a process of

elimination. There was no awareness of architecture or architects, or pretty

much of anything pertaining to the profession. My grandparents lived in

Norman, which offered many opportunities over the years to explore the

university. Went through the engineering and art schools and explored the

architecture school. Talked many times with a kindly guy who was always

hanging out at the arch. school, had no idea who he was. Of course, later

learned it was Mr. Goff, Chairman of the School. Mr. Goff helped me on my

decision. I had a talent for drawing and the work on the walls were

inspiring and overwhelming; never had seen anything like that before. I

wanted to do that. So, I enrolled and got lucky. Became friends with Herb

Greene and others, plus had the opportunity to visit with Mr. Goff on many

occasions.

As I said, got lucky to have had an experience that had a profound impact on

my life. My appreciation of Bruce Goff as an artist, teacher, and architect

increases as I get older. I was very fortunate to get to hang out with a

Mozart. Like Goff said, many are called but few serve, was correct. You

seldom see good stuff, but again I'm lucky by living in Norman, I see good

stuff everyday.

As for my own career, doing design work has always been for myself,

relatives, or some luckless soul. Currently gamefully employed as an on-site

owner's representative (Oklahoma Historical Society) for the Oklahoma

History Center, designed by HOK, about 70 mil. job in OKC. Before that,

worked on Indian Reservations(medical facilities & housing) and solar houses

in CO. More currently, refurbishing my metal building into an office,

refurbishing my old house to sell, designing my small budget house in CO,

and planning to hang out in the mountains.
